Coppia di dipinti in stile coloniale (Perù / Bolivia, XX secolo)

A pair of intense, luminous works executed in the Cuzqueño style, the great Baroque-Andean tradition born between Peru and Bolivia: saturated colors, meticulous detailing, burnished gold, and a strong devotional imprint.

The first canvas depicts a crowned Virgin, wrapped in a richly decorated mantle adorned with floral motifs and painted pearls, following the Andean ceremonial aesthetic that transforms textiles into narrative icons.

The second portrays an ángel músico, dressed in feathers, embroidery, and ritual garments, holding a drum. A recurring figure in South American colonial painting, suspended between protection, symbolism, and sacred dance.

Both works come from a selection gathered during a journey through Mexico, a land where Andean influences and local traditions have intersected for centuries. The pair stands out for its scenographic presence, chromatic balance, and painterly quality, further enhanced by the original solid red cedar wood frames. This material was highly prized by Latin American craftsmen, who often reused boards and elements from older furniture to create new frames. The small traces of woodworm, now fully stabilized, bear witness to this practice of reuse: details that add authenticity, warmth, and material depth to the pair.
