The Farnese Hercules, preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, is a Roman copy dating from the 3rd century AD. The sculpture depicts Hercules at rest after completing his Twelve Labours, leaning on his club draped with the skin of the Nemean lion, while holding the apples of the Hesperides behind his back.
Here, strength is no longer expressed through action, but through what remains after it. The body appears tense, exhausted, almost vulnerable. It has nothing left to prove.
